Rail Innovation Australia Pty Ltd is the spin-off company created from the Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies (Rail CRC) which officially closed in June 2007. Rail Innovation Australia was established to take the technologies and Intellectual Property developed in the Rail CRC to the market for the benefit of the rail industry. The asset base of Rail Innovation Australia is substantial with a number of exciting technologies to be delivered to the industry including OZ-ECP brakes, Health Cards, Rail Noise and Wear Assessment tool and others.
While Rail Innovation Australia works with key partners to commercialise the world-leading technologies developed in Rail CRC, it will also position itself as an industry leader in intellectual property transfer, commercialisation and the development of new technologies in collaborative partnerships with manufacturers and technology users.
Following the conclusion of Rail CRC in Rockhampton in 2007, the Cooperative Research Centre for Rail Innovation has commenced as a new CRC for the rail industry. The CRC for Rail Innovation will be a greater force for the rail industry with more than $100 million in resources committed from the Commonwealth Government, industry and universities.
The Centre will be based in Brisbane and will have strong linkages with the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) in Canberra. Its research program will offer broad research directions with research themes including 1) economic, social and environmental sustainability 2) operations and safety 3) engineering and safety and 4) education and training.
